I've been wanting to try The Chairman for a year now but the long lines turn me off which is a good sign for how delicious it must be. They also have a brick and mortar space in the Tenderloin but could just never make it there. Today, a co-worker wanted to check out the Off The Grid trucks on Front and Vallejo. With the rain and getting there way before noon, the line was non-existent and I was super stoked.
I ordered the Tender Pork Belly and Spicy Chicken steamed buns and the infamous Coca-Cola Braised Pork on a baked bun. The food looked beautiful and tasty. I just want to warn you that if you do steamed buns, it's more of a snack size as opposed to the baked bun which is almost as big as a hamburger bun.
The Tender Pork Belly was indeed tender and juicy, and I love the added crunch of the pickled daikon. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it needed a little more punch of flavor for me. I would definitely try it again though.
The Spicy Chicken on the other hand was perfect! Fluffy bun and tasty chicken packed with pickled carrots and cucumbers and cilantro! Good flavors overall. This is a perfect snack, or bite in my case!
I was really hyped to finally try the Coca-Cola Braised Pork. I decided to get it with a baked bun and I was kind of underwhelmed with it. Maybe, I should've had it with a steamed bun instead. There was more bun and cabbage than pork itself. It was decent and tasted ok. I probably won't get this one again, but to each their own.
Overall, The Chairman was ok. I'll have to go the brick and mortar space and see if there's a difference in tastes. Stay tuned.
